ON TELEPHOTO LENS

What do you imagine when hearing the term tele lens for DSLR camera? Maybe you would imagine in a large and heavy lens as it is commonly used by professionals. Actually, what's the difference in the telephoto lens compact cameras and DSLR cameras? Why pocket cameras can have such a long lens, but its small size, while a telephoto lens for a DSLR camera has a focal range that looks normal but the size (and price) exceptional? Any tips photographed using a telephoto lens? Consider everything in this article.
Telephoto lens can mean a lens that has a focal length that reaches the image plane away from the camera. The benefit of course is clear, we can take something without us having to close, such as when shooting concerts, wildlife or sports events. In addition, if the lens has wide angle-of-view width so we can insert object and its surroundings, then a telephoto lens just the opposite. With a telephoto lens, thanks to the ability of the lens magnification, as if we are permitted to isolate objects from their surroundings. For that telephoto lenses are also sometimes used as a portrait lens that can create objects with background blur isolation. Basically telephoto lens has a certain focal length (like 200mm, 300mm, etc.) representing the angle-of-view is also given. The longer focal lens, the more narrow area covered and the higher the ability of the lens magnification. But we are more used to and more like a telephoto lens of the present that have varying focal length, or so-called tele zoom lens. Examples such as lens 70-200mm, 100-300mm or 200-400mm. For that, a term that I use a telephoto lens in this article is a telephoto zoom / focal variables.Pocket camera has a zoom lens that is considered sufficient to accommodate the needs of wide to tele everyday. A 3x optical zoom compact cameras were considered to represent the three needs: wide (usually 28-35mm) for landscape and architecture, normal (50mm) for portraits and telephoto (100mm or more) for the needs of tele-photography. A modern compact cameras even have a high capacity up to 300mm telephoto in a compact size and small. This is possible due to the compact cameras, sensors used small so do not need a large diameter lens. Then it's lens pocket camera can be made with a small diameter and automatic size became smaller. Besides small lenses cheaper in the production process so that only natural that there is a pocket camera lens 28-300mm sells for 4 million. In DSLR cameras, telephoto lens choice will vary depending on the needs of its telephoto range. So many kinds of telephoto lenses on the market with specifications and prices vary greatly, making us confused sometimes when I want to drop the option. For that time we will recognize more about telephoto lenses and usage tips.

First and foremost, first identify typical or your shooting style. If you like photographing something from a distance, or happy isolate objects so that everyone will see your photos directly fixed on the object, of course, a telephoto lens is the right choice. Furthermore, the lens first identify equipment that you have. It is not right if you want to have a telephoto lens, but now you do not have any lens. Telephoto lenses are generally owned by someone who at least has had a kit lens. After that, decide if you need a constant aperture telephoto lens or simply a variable aperture (aperture is not constant). You remember, variable aperture zoom lens means the lens to zoom the maximum aperture will become smaller. This kind of lens design easier and smaller size than the constant aperture zoom telephoto lens.

How can we know which type of lens do we need? Ideally, every zoom lens has a constant aperture so at any focal position the lens diaphragm will be able to open the aperture remains the same. There are two kinds of constant aperture telephoto lens that is commonly encountered large constant aperture lens (f/2.8) are expensive and rather small constant aperture lens (f / 4) is more affordable. An example is the Nikon 70-200mm lens f/2.8 and the Canon 70-200mm f / 4. A lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 is certainly able to put more light to allow the use of faster shutter of the lens f / 4. Besides the lens with a larger aperture can certainly produce a beautiful bokeh. However, the lens has a constant aperture large dimensions and heavy weight, because of its complex arrangement of lenses in it. For those who feel that 'mind' with the price and weight of a constant aperture telephoto lens, available variable aperture lens such as 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 maximum aperture indicating is f/4.5 at 70mm and f/5.6 at 300mm tapers to. Lenses of this type is very popular because the price is affordable and the size is smaller than a constant aperture lens. So that option is certainly more focused on the existing budget and how would we put a big and heavy lens. Remember that at the same focal, variable aperture lens also has a range telephoto lens with a constant aperture.Of course having a variable aperture lenses have compromises that must be accepted, especially in terms of the ability of light entering the lens. Please note that telephoto lenses are in need of a quick shutter to mengkompesasi hand-shake so the images do not blur. The theory is one focal length lens, eg 300mm telephoto lens you use, then you need to have speed at least 1/300 second to prevent blur. Not easy to get the ideal situation that can make the camera can use speed 1/300 sec, unless you are outdoors in broad daylight now. With a maximum aperture range at f/5.6 only, for example, when the light was insufficient, the camera shutter will drop so susceptible to blur (though when using f/2.8 lens that can be made faster shutter). For that compromises must be accepted when using a variable aperture lens is a lens is less suitable for use in low-light. Because when using a variable aperture lens, you should be able to get a lot of light to get the shutter speed (usually during the day), or you may be forced to take pictures with less light, but with the risk of blur.

But for owners of economical telephoto lens with a variable aperture should not be discouraged. There are at least three things that could be pursued to address the dilemma. In fact, these three things no harm was also done by those who are constant aperture lenses, because of the risk of blur caused by hand-shake is always there even wearing any.

Use stabilizer. This technology is able to detect hand-shake and compensate so that we could take pictures with a lower speed (up to 3 stops). That is 3 stops like this: to prevent blur when you first need to speed 1/200 sec without IS, then the IS you can shoot without blurring with speed 1/100 sec (down 1 stop) -> 1/50 sec (down 2 stop) -> 1/25 sec (down 3 stops). Stabilizer will be very beneficial, especially when using a telephoto lens, with a 55-200mm lens without the stabilizer would make the wearer PD when shooting with a speed below 1/200 sec. Stabilizer in the lens (IS for Canon and VR for Nikon) is more effective when compared with the body stabilizer (IS on the Olympus, Pentax U.S. and Steady Shot on Sony) that works by moving the sensor. Remember too, if stabilizer only helps prevent blur due to hand-shake and blur due to motion of the object is not currently high enough speed.

Use a high ISO. DSLR cameras have a good ability to overcome noise at high ISO, so why afraid to use high ISO? The combination of stabilizer and high ISO (if necessary) is very good because it can get a high speed so that the risks can be minimized blur. If your telephoto lens (and your DSLR body) there is no system stabilizer, high ISO reliable usage when light is insufficient risk decrease shutter speed.

Use a tripod. Accessories are not just belong to the lovers of landscape, but also tele-photography lovers. First, the tripod will prevent hand-shake when shooting. Secondly, a tripod to prevent hand fatigue while supporting the lens weighing several kilograms. Two benefits at once obtained by memakaitripod, so that the images with the telephoto lens will be sharp and charming. So, has the economical telephoto lens with a variable aperture is not something that hinders our creativity while out flaws and tricks around this. Moreover, because the price is cheap, a lot of people who already have a DSLR with kit lens and bought a telephoto lens is a lens both. When you are user Canon / Nikon, avoid buying a telephoto lens without stabilizer although the price is a little cheaper. But for professionals who need a telephoto lens performance in all lighting conditions, a constant f/2.8 aperture lenses are large, heavy and expensive absolutely necessary because they should not compromise with the things above. For the enthusiast, photography hobby and semi-pro, can use a telephoto lens aperture constant f / 4 is more economical and smaller than f/2.8 constant aperture lens.

WHAT IT WIDE LENS

Wide lens (or wideangle) as the name commonly referred to as the lens (angle) wide. The meaning of the width means it can cover a wide angle image so that the lens can include large areas in one area of the photo. Focal lens is arguably the width is between 10-30mm, while 10mm had entered below grade fish eye. If you use the kit lens with a focal range of 18-55mm (which would be equivalent to 28-85mm due to the crop factor) may feel less so if the lens is wide. So for the needs of a more wide, people then consider having another one wideangle lens.

In this discussion basically distinguish between fixed and zoom wide-angle lens, but we would prefer a zoom lens. So that I demonstrated some wide zoom lens products are quite popular such as:

     Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 DX
Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
     Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
     Nikon AF-S 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 DX

The first you need to know about lenses like the above is its price could be even more expensive than the price of the camera: (. Though not always the lens wide variety crammed with modern features such as a stabilizer. Problems aperture openings were generally not a great or constant. Then what's so making it expensive wide lens? perhaps the answer because of the difficulty in designing a more wide lens optics. wide lens optics must be able to provide good sharpness and wherever possible avoid purple fringing and vignetting (darker corners area).

Generally DSLR we have is bersensor APS-C. When you buy a wide-angle lens (ie a lens with a focal 10-22mm) do not like it with a 10mm focal, because due to the crop factor the 10mm equivalent of 15mm if it be compared with film cameras. So, avoid wide-angle lens for full frame like the 14-24mm because it will be less wide

Okay, let's leave the dizzying technical discussion, we discuss aspects of photography alone. What is the purpose you buy a wide lens? If the survey is likely the majority will tell you to get a photograph of a landscape, perhaps for the rest of the interior or architectural photos. Okay, that's part of the function of a wide lens.
But for more details, I can further detail here:

Wideangle not just incorporate many elements into the picture
Sometimes we think it's useful wide-angle lens to include as many elements into an area of the photo. No one did, because thanks to the wide angle lens so wide it could do that. But in photography it needs a name Point of Interest and get a POI from wide-angle lens is more difficult because if we are not careful then the image that we produce is less interesting as an example of the photo above. Why? Because there may be no undue element, just get into the frame and interfere with POI. So with a wide lens, we need to better understand the basic of photography such as composition, framing, POI, etc.

Wideangle dimension suggests
Wide-angle lens has another feature that is able to give dimension or depth of a photograph. So the function of a wide lens is trying to bring three-dimensional atmosphere in the second dimension. How can that be? Since the photo was made with a wide-angle lens will easily be imagined where the front (close to the camera), which is central and what is the back (away from the camera). As the risk is, objects that are too close to the camera will appear huge, while distant objects would appear very small. I took the photo above on the south coast of Banten, called the Cape Screen. Notice the large rock that resembles coral, the original stone was very large. But because I use a wide-angle lens, so it looked a bit small coral and rocks in front of (the original is quite small) so it seems great.

Wideangle create distortion effects
It is a commonplace of a wide-angle lens, the distortion. That is at the center of the lens may be fine, but on the edge of distortion so that there will be certain photographs will look less natural, such as portraits and photographs of the building. Another case for the scenery (landscape) where the distortion that occurs can be considered disruptive. Distortions in the architecture will look at the straight lines so skewed, we generally let alone photographing tall buildings in a standing position on the ground. So that seemed the building would appear to get smaller over alias perspective changed. Photo Bani Umar mosque in Tangerang I took with 12mm focal lens (equivalent to 18mm on a full frame), seems so skewed due to lens distortion. To overcome if it can be corrected with the use of digital plug-in perspective correction in Photoshop, or you might as well buy a Tilt Shift lens PC (Perspective Correction)
